We use Adobe Lightroom Classic for organising, classifying and cataloging all our image and video assets. It is an amazing software package that helps us keep organised. It would otherwise be impossible to find anything, but using keywords, metadata and a proper organisation strategy makes it much easier.

We create a new folder for each photo shoot or event, including the date and a meaningful name that will make the content easy to find. All the images in the folder are renamed according the folder name and numbered using the automatic file rename.

If we have time, we keyword as we go, to add keywords that indicate the content of the image. We never add keywords that can be derived from the metadata, like camera/lens model, place name, GPS co-ordinates, etc.

As far as possible, we use Lightroom Classic to do all basic image editing, and use Open With Photoshop for more complex multi-image editing, or when layers or other Photoshop-specific editing is required. When opened from within Lightroom Classic, files saved from Photoshop are automatically imported into Lightroom Classic alongside the original files, and form part of the catalog.

Lightroom Classic is an integral and important part of our workflow, and definitely something we couldn’t do without.

Lightroom Classic and Photoshop are the main component apps of the Adobe Photographer’s bundle, available on a monthly subscription from the Adobe website.
